CDS is Canada's national securities depository, clearing and settlement hub for domestic and cross-border depository-eligible securities. It supports Canada's equity, fixed income and money markets and is accountable for the safe custody and movement of securities, the processing of post-trade transactions, and the collection and distribution of entitlements relating to securities deposited by participants.


Job Description Summary

The Manager, Collateral / Banking Operations is accountable for ensuring complete and timely processing as well as supporting CDS participants in areas such as:
• Collateral Management, Securities and Cash
• Bank of Canada Lynx large value transfer system payments
• US Banks Fed wires
• Ongoing superior client support


Reporting to Director, TMX Depository, Clearing & Settlement Operations, you will provide leadership and direction to a team of Analysts and Team Leads located in Toronto and Montreal.

Key Accountabilities

  • Point person for setting and following up with participants to satisfy their collateral requirements

  • Central point of contact for clients, and ongoing client engagement to ensure client needs are met and solutions are provided

  • Provide high level knowledge of technical and analytical expertise regarding Collateral/Banking/Settlements

  • Ensure full Cash Reconciliation with all Bank accounts

  • Ensure successful completion of end of day Payment Exchange

  • Ensure complete and accurate Issuer Credit Rating

  • Ensure processing the CNS Buyins by the established deadlines

  • Manage Relationships with Regulators, Internal and External Audit, Risk Management, Finance and Technology partners

  • Perform all responsibilities in accordance with procedures, recognition order requirements, internal controls and/or audit requirements.

  • Make recommendations using professional judgment, guided by known practices

  • Assist Relationship Managers in servicing clients when required.

  • Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by his/her Manager.

People Leadership:

  • Manage a team of highly professional experts in the field of Post Trade Operations

  • Ensure the team is well versed on new industry initiatives that will showcase the strategic position of CDS.

  • Leverage coachable moments and provide ongoing and regular feedback to direct reports on personal development and growth opportunities.

  • Is a role model and develops a team that acts as positive ambassadors of CDS in all communications and through consistent service levels.

  • Support team members in a consistent and positive way by being a good coach and mentor, being always available, ensuring people succeed with allocated tasks and having the necessary technical skills that help them succeed.

  • Motivate and offer purpose at work, innovate, generate fresh ideas, redesign processes for increased productivity or functionality, and create an overall great employee experience.

  • Help team members understand how their specific roles contribute to the wider organization's success.

Must haves:

  • University degree, preferably in Business Administration, Finance, Commerce, Economics

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial industry

  • A good working knowledge of the Canadian Securities Industry (Equities, Fixed Income), and the Global Capital Markets

  • An understanding of risk tolerance and appetite and the ability to manage accordingly

  • Proven professional judgment in managing client expectations and respecting customers confidentiality

  • Excellent listening, written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills skills

  • Ability to organize, prioritize tasks, detail oriented and meet deadlines

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, proactive and highly self-motivated

  • A change leader with a willingness and ability to adapt to a changing environment and responsibilities

Nice to haves:

  • Fluency in both French and English (written and spoken) is an asset, as this role involves regular interaction with partners and stakeholders in both languages.

  • Previous experience working with clients is an asset to provide excellent client service

  • Strong proficiency with Google and other desktop applications

Note:

  • Work under the current corporate hybrid policy, which is a two-day presence at the office
