As a Manager, Compliance you will play a crucial role in our Health Solutions Compliance team, navigating the complex regulatory landscape of virtual care within the financial services sector. This dynamic contract position offers the opportunity to leverage your broad expertise in health regulations while working at the forefront of the rapidly evolving industry. In this position, you'll assist with compliance monitoring for Dialogue, a Sun Life subsidiary specializing in virtual healthcare, while reporting to the Director, Health Solutions Compliance. Your responsibilities will include interpreting and applying federal and provincial health regulations, with a particular focus on OSFI-regulated financial institutions. This crucial function will contribute significantly to ensuring regulatory compliance and guiding strategic decision-making across the organization. Your insights will be instrumental in guiding cross-functional teams, ensuring regulatory compliance, and informing strategic decision-making. Your responsibilities will include interpreting federal and provincial health regulations pertaining to virtual care in Canada, particularly for OSFI-regulated financial institutions. You'll provide valuable insights to cross-functional teams, driving informed decision-making and ensuring regulatory compliance. Additionally, you'll support the second line of defense (2LOD) with oversight and guidance, enabling the business unit to meet regulatory expectations. You'll collaborate closely with the Director and other team members to shape compliance strategies for cutting-edge health solutions. Initially, the role will have a general scope, with opportunities to specialize in areas aligned with your interests and strengths as you gain experience. This position offers a unique chance to contribute to the development of compliance frameworks in an innovative and fast-paced environment.
What will you do?
Analyze and interpret federal and provincial health regulations.
Provide compliance oversight and guidance to the second line of defense.
Support the development of compliance strategies for virtual care initiatives.
Collaborate with business units to ensure regulatory expectations are met.
Contribute to the creation of compliance policies and procedures.
Be the subject matter expert for provincial and federal health regulations in general and for a variety of medical disciplines
Understand and interpret regulations and understand how they work within the broader health and Healthtech landscape
Promote compliance awareness and provide effective challenge of 1LOD activities.
Ensure the business has robust compliance structures in place, integrated with Sun Life's existing RCM program.
Assist 2LOD in designing and making available compliance-related training for relevant staff
Provide business with interpretation on existing, new, and amended Compliance requirements.
Report on emerging and potential risks, control weaknesses, significant issues, and key regulatory developments.
Assess the adequacy and effectiveness of controls to ensure they are sufficiently robust to achieve compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
Perform compliance testing on established controls within the business.
Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in business, operations, compliance, audit, legal, and with regulatory staff.
What do you need to succeed?
Extensive experience in regulatory compliance within the healthcare landscape.
Demonstrated expertise in an OSFI-regulated environment, with alignment to a three lines of defense model
Relevant university degree and/or experience in health law, health policy, or related field.
In-depth knowledge of key operational supporting functions and applicable regulatory rules.
Proficiency in understanding provincial and federal healthcare regulations.
Ability to distill complex requirements without oversimplifying or missing critical components.
Capability to grasp the overall theme of regulatory requirements despite detailed provisions.
Skill in identifying compliance risks and assessing their severity.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with demonstrated relationship management and conflict resolution abilities.
Ability to effectively prioritize in a diverse and fast-paced environment.
Comfort working with ambiguity.
As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.
