Job Description:

Sun Life’s Defined Benefit Solutions (DBS) business develops and implements innovative de-risking solutions for defined benefit pension plans. The Manager, Integration and Onboarding is accountable to ensure a smooth transition between new business activities and ongoing operations. The Manager also supports servicing activities and reports to the AVP, Strategic Initiatives, Defined Benefit Solutions.

Role summary:

The Manager, Integration and Onboarding, DBS will be responsible for driving all DBS’ new business implementations as well as identifying and coordinating opportunities to improve tools, processes, and efficiency around our implementation and client experience capabilities.

Key accountabilities:

New business implementation

  • Partner with the Client Relationships and Structuring teams to understand special circumstances and relevant knowledge around upcoming new business.

  • Coordinate implementation processes from beginning to end and ensure adequate tracking of progress.

  • Lead the implementation team and act as a mentor, decision-making and training resource to support the team in achieving great results.

  • Proactively identify any issues that may affect our members, our clients, or our business, and investigate solutions to solve them.

  • Support client discussions and provide great client servicing experience when required.

  • Understand the member experience and how new implementations and system set up might impact that experience.

  • Complete member web experience testing to ensure desired experience is achieved.

  • Act as subject matter expert for implementation work in various projects and initiatives.

Continuous improvements

  • Deliberately spend time on continuous improvements and maintain an ongoing list of potential projects to drive innovation and enhancements of current processes and tools.

  • Manage the implementation of promising continuous improvements by partnering with other DBS teams.

  • Work with DBS’ and GRS’ senior management to prioritize these opportunities.

  • Implement the prioritized opportunities by partnering with internal and external teams and stakeholders.

  • Present at the DBS Inforce Lab when applicable.

Leadership

  • Develop and lead a high performing team of four actuarial analysts and plan implementation specialists to execute on the role’s mandate.

  • Influence key stakeholders to create support for DBS’ implementation priorities.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics, or statistics

  • A combination of either:

    • Minimum of 5 years of insurance or pension experience in an actuarial role, and on a path to finalize their SOA/CIA actuarial exams curriculum; or

    • 10+ years of insurance and/or pension experience in an actuarial role and previous relevant experience in people management.

  • Strong project management skills .

  • Very strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills that allow for challenging analysis.

  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation) with the ability to explain complex ideas to non-actuaries.

  • Strong curiosity and proactivity with the capacity to identify potential risks early on.

  • Strong influencing skills

  • Proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities.

  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, challenge the status quo and promote new solutions.

  • Bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada and worldwide

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
