Job Description:

Experienced Senior Data Engineer to lead our data engineering area and drive our data architecture, pipeline, and modeling initiatives. This role will play a crucial part in enabling data-driven decision-making across our organization by building and optimizing our data infrastructure.

What will you do?

  • Mentor Data Engineers, setting short and long-term goals for team success

  • Develop and implement best practices for data collection, storage, and analysis at scale

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, data scientists, analysts, and IT to understand data needs and requirements

  • Design, build, and maintain efficient and reliable data pipelines and architectures

  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and accessibility while adhering to data modeling standards and privacy regulations

  • Present options and recommendations to various levels of stakeholders

What do you need to succeed?

  • B.Sc. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or equivalent work experience

  • 2+ years of experience leading data engineering teams or large-scale projects

  • 5+ years of experience with programming languages such as Python, SQL, SAS, or R

  • 5+ years of experience in data modeling, ETL processes, and working with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS)

  • 5+ years of experience with data warehousing, data lakes, and relational databases

  • Strong knowledge of statistical models, data modeling, and machine learning algorithms

  • Proficiency in using tools such as Spark, AWS Glue, Hive, and Lambda

  • As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including data storytelling and presentation abilities

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies and methodologies

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
